Rosacea’s physical symptoms can be frustrating enough, but its impact can reach well beneath the surface. In a recent survey of 1,009 respondents, women with rosacea symptoms, compared to women with clear skin, were perceived as:

  • More likely to be insecure (33% vs. 13%)
  • Likely to be in a relationship (64% vs. 81%)
  • More in need of improving personal skin care (73% vs. 10%)

A 2007 survey by the National Rosacea Society, featuring 603 respondents, reveals even more about rosacea’s emotional toll:

  • 76% said their condition lowered their self-confidence and self-esteem
  • 38% said it caused them to avoid public contact or cancel social engagements
  • 70% with severe symptoms said it adversely affected their professional interactions, with 30% even missing work because of their condition

The good news? 80% also said that effective medical therapy improved or somewhat improved their emotional well-being.

Treat yourself well, from the inside out, by talking openly with your dermatologist, as well as family and friends. With proper treatment and a positive approach, you can start feeling (and living!) your absolute best.
